Can our wool bedding be machine washed? Most of our wool bedding can be washed using our special washing instructions provided with your purchase. If you need another copy of these instructions, please send us an email and we will return your email as soon as possible. For emergencies, late night accidents or when Holy Lamb Organics is closed and you are not able to get in touch with us, gently spot clean the area and wash away under the sink the specific spots that are the trouble. Set aside to later wash the entire product once you have received the washing instructions. You can also treat the problem area with live cultured enzymes which eliminate odors. Biokleen makes a product called Bac Out. These can be found at your local health food store/ co-op.

My cat peed on my bedding. What do I do? First, hand wash the specific area where the pee is concentrated before attempting to wash the entire comforter. Secondly, follow the instructions provided with you product. In the soaking stage, add a dose of live cultured enzymes (mentioned above) the water and let your bedding soak for a good while. Continue washing your product using the specific washing instructions provided with your purchase.

Do you carry other types of materials such as cotton or down? No. While there are many types of "natural" materials used in natural bedding, we find wool to be the best. It ranks far above all other products (including cotton and down bedding) in it's ability to resist dust mites. Even products that are labeled "hypoallergenic" (including down products that have undergone massive wash techniques to get rid of the dust and even synthetic products) will not be able to be dust mite free for long. Once you take it home, it will naturally attract dust mites.

Now let's examine the ecological footprint of wool. There is a great difference between domestic wool and wool that is imported. Many of the larger natural bedding companies use wool that has come from New Zealand and Australia. This outsourcing has depressed the sheep farming community for years due to cheap importation of foreign wool. Where you spend your money makes a difference- so be sure to buy bedding made with domestic wool. Our company uses wool that comes from our local Pacific Northwest bio-region. Another factor that makes wool the best is proces in which wool is taken from the animal. Down bedding comes from the poultry industy. The bird is used for it's meat while the feathers are plucked for bedding. Sheep however, are not harmed in the shearing process. Simply stated, the sheep get a "haircut" and the coat of fleece grows back annually.

Lastly, we find wool superior with regards to its comfort and cozy qualities. Being so breathable, it actually helps to regulate your body temperature. There is just something about wool that has people fall in love with it.
