Holy Lamb Organics
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are there chemicals in any of your products? No! Our wool is grown and processed without using any chemicals, it is cleaned using only a mild biodegradable soap. One of wool's great qualities is that it is naturally flame retardant, so this allows us to sell our mattresses without nasty flame retardants or other chemicals. Our facility is also a chemical and fragrance free environment.
Does the fabric have any type of sizing or finish on it? There is currently no fabric finish on our fabrics. This is in contrast to the harsh chemicals used in finishing conventional fabric that you would find, for example, on textiles in a fabric store.
What is the difference between Premium Eco-wool and Eco-wool? We use the Premium Eco-wool (PEW) blend for our products because it is the highest quality wool that is out there (seriously). The Premium Eco-Wool blend is the combination of about 20 growers in the Pacific Northwest. They meet a strict growing criteria and produce an impeccably clean wool. Some of our Clearance List products use the Eco-wool which is sourced from a very high quality wool pool, but it is a different source than our top of the line PEW and able to be obtained at a lower price point which we can pass onto our customers. So in a nutshell, the quality of the Eco-Wool is slightly less than our top of the line PEW blend and allows us to offer a discount to our customers. Eco-wool is only available on our Clearance List. Either Organic or Premium Eco-Wool is used exclusively for the products on our website.
Is your wool organic? We do offer a few products that use organic wool, but it is actually only when we cannot find the same wool product that uses Eco-Wool as we believe the Eco-Wool is currently the better product. The majority of organic wool that is available in the U.S. market suited for making bedding comes from New Zealand and Australia. While it is great that there is a growing market of organic wool, we believe that local wool which supports small U.S. farmers and creates U.S. jobs is far more advantageous than a certified organic wool- especially considering that there is a rigorous program to ensure the wool is produced sustainably.
Where does your wool come from? Our wool is sourced only from small sheep farmers in the U.S. Our mill is located in Northern California. This year most of the wool is coming from small farmers along the West Coast. This is quite a political issue, actually, since most of the wool used in the U.S. is imported from New Zealand and Australia, greatly undermining our own local farms and our economy. The majority of manufacturers use wool that has come from New Zealand and Australia. Though other manufacturers may use a U.S. Mill that does not necessarily mean that the wool they are using is domestic.
Where does the fabric come from? For all of the products we manufacture, we are dedicated to using only certified organic cotton fabric. This fabric is grown, spun and woven in India then shipped to fabric mills on the East Coast for finishing. Most of our sheeting also comes from India, except our USA grown sheeting line which is grown in Texas and then manufactured just across the border in Mexico.
Do I need to wash my bedding before I use it? No, your wool bedding is ready to use. There is no need to wash it unless it is your preference. There are no chemicals located in our production facility, no animals on-site, no finishes used on the fabric and we have a fragrance-free environment. Please contact us for special washing instructions prior to washing your item.
Can the wool bedding be washed and how do I wash it? Most of our wool bedding can be washed using our special washing instructions provided with your purchase. If you need another copy of these instructions, please send us an email and we will return your email as soon as possible. For emergencies, late night accidents or when Holy Lamb Organics is closed and you are not able to get in touch with us, gently spot clean the area and wash away under the sink the specific spots that are the trouble. Set aside to later wash the entire product once you have received the washing instructions. You can also treat the problem area with live cultured enzymes which eliminate odors. Biokleen makes a product called Bac Out. These can be found at your local health food store/ co-op.
My cat peed on my bedding. What do I do? First, hand wash the specific area where the urine is concentrated before attempting to wash the entire comforter. Secondly, follow the instructions provided with your product. In the soaking stage, add a dose of live cultured enzymes (mentioned above) to the water and let your bedding soak for a good while. Continue washing your product using the specific washing instructions provided with your purchase.
On your Clearance List you offer discounted items that have a “small fabric defect”. What does that mean? A small fabric defect is a minor cosmetic flaw on the fabric which does not affect the integrity of the product. It is typically a slight irregularity or tiny mark on the fabric which just does not meet our high standards of quality control. All of the items on our Clearance List are inner bedding items such as pillows, comforters and toppers that will be covered with top of bed linens such as pillow cases, duvet covers and sheets. So not only will you probably never find the little defect- you'll be covering the product anyway.

How do I choose a mattress topper? If the goal of adding a topper to your bed is to create a natural sleeping surface than all of our toppers will work for that purpose. If your goal is to create a breathable surface for your body- stick with the wool toppers as latex is less breathable. If the goal is to create more cushion (or softness to your bed) then you'll need to decipher just how much cushion you would like. For maximum cushion try our latex toppers, next try the Quilted Ultimate, for slightly less try the Quilted Deep Sleep or the Happy Lamb Fleece. People who are in bed for a long periods of time or who have fibromyalgia. greatly benefit from the Happy Lamb Fleece. For more information about these toppers follow this link to our Mattress Topper page on our website.
What is the thickness of the Mattress Toppers, Deep sleep and Ultimate? It is very challenging to talk about a soft and squishy product in terms of inches. It is much more accurate to compare products using their total wool weight. However, it can be helpful to know approximate heights for products. The Deep Sleep topper is approximately 1.5-2” and our Ultimate topper has a loft of about 2.5-3” thick. We have samples of these toppers available for $15.00, which may help you make a decision on which topper is right for you. If you end up ordering a topper, then the cost of the sample is free and is applied as a rebate to your order. We also have comforter samples as well. Contact us for more information or to order a sample.
How do I know what comforter weight to choose? For more information on helping you choose which comforter temperature weight is right for you please follow this link. If you still are unsure, please email or give us a call at 888-359-1362 and we would be happy to assist you.
Will my bedding compress and how much? Wool bedding will naturally compress with the weight and the heat of your body. For example, if you take a pillow and press your hands between it mimicking the weight of your head- this is how much the pillow will compress over time from the weight and heat of your body. The Woolley Down pillow in particular (made of small wool puffs) will compress less than regular wool batting pillows. Compression is not an issue for comforters. There will be some compression for wool toppers, but it does not change the amount of comfort it provides in bed. In fact, we receive more comments about what a difference our toppers make in our customer's experience than any of our other products (our comforters though are a close second!).
How can I pay for my order? There are 2 ways to purchase our products: 1. Online through our website using a credit/debit card with PayPal, 2) or by sending a personal check or money order via mail. If you need assistance, please phone or email us and we will assist you promptly. We do offer a layaway program for our organic mattresses.
Do you make mattresses? We do not make the mattresses in-house, but have sourced out several top organic mattress manufacturers to offer you the very best organic mattress. We searched and screened companies at length until we felt comfortable working with a select few manufacturers who have just as strict environmental and sustainability standards as we do here at Holy Lamb Organics for the products that we manufacture. You can feel assured that these mattresses are made in the U.S.A., use only the finest materials whether it be recycled steel, organic cotton, Eco-Wool and natural Dunlop latex. We offer a classic organic innerspring mattress, a line of Dunlop latex mattresses and an all wool mattress. Available in crib - king size. Please visit our mattress page for more information.
What's so great about wool? It ranks far above all other products (including cotton and down bedding) in its ability to resist dust mites. Even products that are labeled "hypo allergenic" (including down products that have undergone massive wash techniques to get rid of the dust and even synthetic products) will not be able to be dust mite free for long. Once you take it home, it will naturally attract dust mites. The ecological footprint of the wool we use (local and domestic) is better than cotton and down as well. Another factor that makes wool the best is the process in which wool is taken from the animal. Down bedding comes from the poultry industry The bird is used for its meat while the feathers are plucked for bedding. Sheep, however, are not harmed in the shearing process. Simply stated, the sheep get a "haircut" and the coat of fleece grows back annually. Lastly, we find wool superior with regards to its comfort and performance qualities. Wool is the most breathable materials available and it actually helps to regulate your body temperature. There is just something about wool that has people fall in love with it.
What about dust mites? Dust mites can't live in wool due to microscopic bristles on the wool fibers. Therefore it is a great choice if you have allergies to dust mites. Wool is the exception, other bedding materials provide an environment for dust mites.
